Owned by the legendary Perrin family, Château de Beaucastel is a biodynamic pioneer and a true icon of the Southern Rhône. This estate is celebrated for its unique mastery of all thirteen permitted grape varieties, creating a complex blend that balances power with unmatched elegance.
The 2019 vintage is hailed as a modern classic for the region. Wine Spectator awarded the 2019 Southern Rhône vintage a superb 94-point rating, describing the year as one that produced rich, structured, and deeply expressive wines. The 2019 Beaucastel itself has earned widespread acclaim from the world’s top critics, including 97 points from James Suckling, 96+ points from Jeb Dunnuck, and 96 points from Wine Spectator, where it was honored as the #7 Wine of the Year. Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate also awarded it 95 points, noting its dense and savory profile.
The blend is driven by a high proportion of Mourvèdre (30%) and Grenache (30%), supported by Syrah (15%), Counoise (10%), and Cinsault (5%), with the remaining 10% composed of the other traditional varieties (including Vaccarèse, Terret Noir, Muscardin, Clairette, Picpoul, Picardan, Bourboulenc, and Roussanne). On the palate, it reveals a "sleek iron spine" with layers of cassis, plum, leather, and dried garrigue. While it possesses the concentration to be enjoyed in its youth with decanting, this is a bottle built for the long haul. The ideal drinking window is from 2024 through 2040.
