Widely considered the ultimate expression of Canary Islands viticulture, the Suertes del Marqués Vidonia 2020 is a masterpiece from Tenerife’s most visionary producer. Located in the historic Valle de la Orotava, Suertes del Marqués has redefined the potential of Spanish white wine under the leadership of Jonatan García, utilizing >100 year old, ungrafted vines and the traditional, braided "cordón trenzado" training system. This bottling captures the raw, electric energy of volcanic soils, offering a chiseled structure and flinty mineral core that draws frequent comparisons to the prestigious white Burgundies of Meursault and the South African wines of Eben Sadie like Skerpioen.
The 2020 vintage was exceptional for the region’s dry whites, characterized by a growing season that yielded concentrated fruit while preserving the vibrant, bracing acidity essential for long-term aging. This release has earned significant critical acclaim, most notably a massive 96-point score from Luis Gutiérrez of Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate, who described the wine as possessing "lots of finesse, precision, and harmony. The 2020 could very well be the finest Vidonia to date. It has an electric palate and a stony texture, with the precision of a laser cut."
Crafted from 100% Listán Blanco (Palomino) and fermented in 500-liter oak barrels, the wine marries a creamy, expansive texture with a signature saline finish. While its crystalline purity is captivating now, it is a wine truly built for the long haul. Its remarkable structural integrity allows it to evolve beautifully in the cellar, with an ideal drinking window stretching from 2024 through 2035.
